How your decisions can lead to someone else's freedom

Advent devotions: How many professions do you find represented in the Christmas story? We find seven, and as a gift to you this advent, we have made a devotion about each one of them. This is the first one, and if focuses on politicians/leaders.

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.” Luke 2:1-7 ( NIV)

Caesar Augustus, a powerful ruler of the Roman world, made a decree that a census should be taken. This decision had far-reaching effects, impacting a humble carpenter engaged to a pregnant partner. They were required to undertake an arduous journey due to this decree.

This carpenter and their betrothed didn't know it then, but Caesar's decision set the stage for a prophecy to be fulfilled. The birth of Christ, which wouldl happen when they arrived in Bethlehem, would bring freedom to all believers and change the course of history.

This story serves as a reminder that everyone has a place of influence. Even seemingly small decisions can have significant impacts on others people’s lives.

We have all been in situations where we must make unpopular decisions or face costly demands. Sometimes, it is necessary to make unthinkable demands, while other times, we must accept unreasonable requests. However, as businesspeople, professionals and students, our foremost priority should be to keep our minds fixed on Jesus and to serve him through what we do. Our attitude has the power to either draw someone closer to Jesus or push them away. Our journey serves as a connection point for those who are seeking Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, In the choices I make, may I recognize the profound influence they hold over others' lives. May my decisions contribute to the well-being and liberation of those I impact.

Grant me wisdom to discern the broader implications of seemingly small choices, and may my influence be guided by the compassionate and just example of Jesus. In every decision, may I keep my focus on Jesus, drawing others closer to Him through my actions. Amen.
